چکیده

Different representations to describe noise processes and finding connections or equivalence between them have been part of active research for decades, in particular for linear time-invariant case. In this paper the linear parameter-varying (LPV) setting is addressed; starting with the connection between an LPV state-space (SS) representation with a general noise structure and the LPV-SS model in an innovation structure, i.e., the Kalman filter. More specifically, the considered LPVSS representation with general noise structure has static, affine dependence on the scheduling signal; however, we show that its companion innovation structure has a dynamic, rational dependency structure. Following, we would like to highlight the consequences of approximating this Kalman gain by a static, affine dependency structure. To this end, firstly, we use the “fading memory” effect of the Kalman filter to reason how the Kalman gain can be approximated to depend only on a partial trajectory of the scheduling signal. This effect is shown by proving an asymptotically decreasing error upper bound on the covariance matrix associated to the innovation structure in case the covariance matrix is subjected to an incorrect initialization or disturbance. Secondly, we show by an example that an LPV-SS representation that has dynamical, rational dependency on the scheduling signal can be transformed into static, affinely dependent representation by introducing additional states. Therefore, an approximated Kalman gain can, in some cases, be represented by a static, affine Kalman gain at the cost of additional states.

Automated generation and comparison of Takagi-Sugeno and polytopic quasi-LPV models

In the last decades, gain-scheduling control techniques have consolidated as an efficient answer to analysis and synthesis problems for non-linear systems. Among the approaches proposed in the literature, the linear parameter varying (LPV) and TakagiSugeno (TS) paradigms have proved to be successful in dealing with the different trials that the analyzer, or the designer, of a gain-scheduled con...

Estimation of LPV-SS Models with Static Dependency Using Correlation Analysis

Many global identification approaches described in the literature for estimating linear parameter-varying (LPV) discrete-time state-space (SS) models with affine dependence on the scheduling parameter suffer heavily from the curse of dimensionality, making identification of moderate sized systems computationally intensive or infeasible. In this paper, we present a novel two-step approach to est...

Direct Identification of Continuous-Time LPV Input/Output Models

Controllers in the linear parameter-varying (LPV) framework are commonly designed in continuoustime (CT) requiring accurate and low-order CT models of the system. However, identification of continuous-time LPV models is largely unsolved, representing a gap between the available LPV identification methods and the needs of control synthesis. In order to bridge this gap, direct identification of C...

Nonparametric identification of LPV models under general noise conditions: an LS-SVM based approach

Parametric identification approaches in the Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) setting require optimal prior selection of a set of functional dependencies, used in the parametrization of the model coefficients, to provide accurate model estimates of the underlying system. Consequently, data-driven estimation of these functional dependencies has a paramount importance, especially when very limited a...

Instrumental variable scheme for closed-loop LPV model identification

Identification of real-world systems is often applied in closed loop due to stability, performance or safety constraints. However, when considering Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) systems, closed-loop identification is not well-established despite the recent advances in prediction error approaches. Building on the available results, the paper proposes the closed-loop generalization of a recently...
